Excite Announces Summer Tryout Dates, Club Owner Galus Named AISL Deputy Commissioner
| | | | | This morning, Cincinnati Excite owner Dave Galus announced that the American Indoor Soccer League team’s summer tryout format.
For the second consecutive season, the team will be hosting the Excite Premier League, a six-week league which will allow players to work out with and play alongside some of the same players that wear the Excite red and black during the AISL season at the Game Time Training Center.
The registration fee for players is $80.00, which guarantees them two games per week for six weeks. It also includes an Excite t-shirt and a ticket for a 2007-08 Excite home game.
To register, players must fill out the on-line form at the club’s official website, www.cincinnati-excite.com. The player “draft” for the league will be held at the Game Time Training Center (530C Quality Blvd in Fairfield).
In other team news, league commissioner Paul Lapointe named Excite owner Dave Galus as the AISL’s Deputy Commissioner on April 10th. Galus, who has owned the Excite for all three years of it’s existence, will handle many of the day-to-day duties of the league, including marketing, expansion, and operations.
“I am excited to have Dave come aboard and help bring the AISL to even higher level for years to come,” said Lapointe. “Dave has what it takes, and with him in this position the AISL will expand in all categories.”
Finally, six members of the Excite are getting their kicks on the outdoor pitch this spring and summer: midfielder Jon Caldwell is suiting up for the new Carolina Railhawks of the United Soccer League’s First Division, Trey Alexander is playing for the Richmond Kickers of the USL’s Second Division, forward Jack Cummings is a member of the Cleveland City Stars, also in the Second Division, and defenders Sam Fiore and Tim Brown, along with forward Tiest Sondall are staying close to home, as they play for the Cincinnati Kings, also in the Second Division.
Ironically, a penalty kick goal late in regulation by Cummings gave the City Stars a 2-1 victory over the Kings in the Cincinnati club’s home opener last Saturday night. Cummings was fouled by his Excite teammate Fiore in the Kings’ penalty area, setting up the spot kick.
