AISL Announces Termination of New York Franchise

This morning, American Indoor Soccer League commissioner Paul Lapointe officially announced that the league’s New York Hampton Surf franchise has decided not to play in the 2007/2008 season.

“It is with deep regret that we have to make this announcement,” said Lapointe. “However, we are seeking out our options to bring NY back in for the following season.

“We would like to thank the efforts of Surf general manager Andreas Lindberg and the team’s playing staff for what they had accomplished last season. In just a short time, they managed to put a quality club on the field, and we appreciate what they did.”

The Surf played a conditional schedule in 2006-07, and finished with a record of 2-6. Two Surf players were selected in the 2007 Major League Soccer supplemental player draft in February.

Now in it's third season, the American Indoor Soccer League has offices in West Springfield, MA (Administrative) and Cleveland, OH (Media Relations).
