Revs Name Kerry Shubert Head Coach
The American Indoor Soccer League’s newest franchise, the Tulsa Revolution announced today that long-time area soccer enthusiast Kerry Shubert has been signed by team owner Adam Mellor to be the club’s first head coach.
“I think that Kerry is the best choice to be the coach of the Revolution in our first year,” said Mellor. “He has a lifetime of experience in the game, and has countless contacts in the Tulsa area which will make him invaluable as we write the first chapter in our story.”
Kerry has been involved in the Oklahoma soccer community for over 29 years. He began playing at the Broken Arrow Soccer Club and continued his career competitively for the Tulsa Football Club (TFC). During his college career, Kerry played for Oklahoma Christian University (OCU) where he was captain of his team during his final 2 years. After college, he played semi-professional for the Oklahoma City Warriors from 1990 to 1992.
Kerry began coaching competitively in 1992 and has since then made it to 18 State Finals, claimed 13 State Championships, and won 11 Oklahoma Premier League Championships with 7 different teams. He also won a Regional Championship in 1996 and made Oklahoma soccer history by being the first girl’s team to advance to Nationals. He presently coaches two HFC teams, HFC 92 Shubert and HFC 93 Shubert.
In addition to club soccer, Kerry coached at the high school level for Edmond Santa Fe where in 1996 he won the 5A High School Boys State Championship. In the same year, he was named the Oklahoma High School Boys Coach of the Year. Kerry also has collegiate coaching experience as the former University of Tulsa Women’s Assistant Coach from 2000-2003. Over the years, he has also been involved with the Olympic Development Program at a State and Regional level.
Kerry holds several educational licenses including a USYSA National License and a NSCAA National Diploma where he passed with distinction. He will be attempting his NSCAA Advanced National Diploma in the summer of 2005.
Kerry received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Oklahoma Christian University in 1992. He currently uses his talents to coach and personal train. He is the owner of Soccer City Tulsa, which will be the home of the Revolution this winter when they take to the field for their inaugural season in the AISL.
