McGinlay, who is the son of former Excite player/assistant coach John McGinlay, played the past two years for the Excite. Last season, he scored seven goals in eight games.
Here is the official announcement from McGinlay's outdoor club, the USL's Cincinnati Kings.
CINCINNATI (July 23, 2007) - The Cincinnati Kings are losing their leading scorer this year as forward Mike McGinlay has left the team to sign with the Bohemians F.C. of the Football League of Ireland. McGinlay left to join his new team yesterday and has already signed a two-and-half-year contract with the Irish club.
"I'm going to miss playing in front of the fans in Cincinnati and I'd like to thank the Kings for giving me a place to grow as a player and a professional," said McGinlay. "It's time for me to challenge myself at the next level and I am excited to get that opportunity."
McGinlay leads the Kings this year in goals (6), points (13), and shots (35). The 19 year-old forward played in 14 games this season totaling 1,250 minutes. Last year, McGinlay made his professional debut with the Kings. In his one-plus years with the Kings, McGinlay played in 33 games and 2,384 minutes with nine goals, three assists and 67 shots.
A native of Bolton, England, McGinlay is the son of former Bolton Wanderers star, John McGinlay. The elder McGinlay is an assistant coach for the Kings.
"We're going to miss Mike, but we wish him all the best with his new team," said Kings General Manager J.T. Roberts. "Developing young players for bigger stages is part of this league and we have had great success sending players to higher leagues in our short history."
