AISL Brings Professional Indoor Soccer Back to Fort Wayne!

Professional indoor soccer will return to the city of Fort Wayne for the first time since 1991 on Saturday October 13th, when the American Indoor Soccer League’s Rockford Rampage will tangle with the Major Indoor Soccer League’s Detroit Ignition at the Plex Sports Center, with kickoff scheduled for 12 noon.

Admission to the game is free.

The game will feature a local tie-in, as Fort Wayne native Jamar Beasley is a member of the Ignition, and is anticipated to appear at the game.

This will be the first pro indoor soccer game in Fort Wayne since March 1990, when the National Professional Soccer League’s Indiana Kick played their games at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

One of the co-owners of the Plex, Bobby Poursanidis, played on that Kick team.

“Fort Wayne is a great soccer market, and would make a fine addition to the AISL,” said Rampage president Oscar Albuquerque. “This game will be a great exhibition for the fans of Fort Wayne, and if the interest is there, we can come back in the future as a member of the AISL.”

The game will bring in the two finalists in their respective league’s championship games. The Igntion, who had a highly successful inaugural campaign in the MISL, finished in first place in the MISL with an 18-12 record. They hosted the league’s championship game last April, but came out on the short end of a 13-8 decision against the Philadelphia KiXX.

The Rampage finished in second place last season with an 8-5 record, and would lose 11-5 to the Massachusetts Twisters in the AISL Championship Game.

The Plex is located at 1807 East California Rd, which is approximately a half mile north of the Coliseum. For more information on The Plex, call (260) 496-9999.
