Rebels Sign Indoor Veteran Sinisa Alebic as Player/Assistant Coach
| | | | | ) The Northern Illinois Rebels announced this morning that the American Indoor Soccer League team has signed indoor veteran defender Sinisa Alebic (pronounced Sin-ee-sa Al-eh-bick) to a contract to serve as player as well as assistant coach.
A native of Split, Croatia, Alebic brings a long and distinguished indoor career to the first-year Rebels. He began his indoor career with the Milwaukee Wave of the National Professional Soccer League (now Major Indoor Soccer League) in 2000. He would be a member of the defensive corps that helped the Wave win the NPSL championship that season.
After two years with the Wave, he moved on to Dallas, where he played with the MISL’s Sidekicks for two seasons. He would return to Milwaukee for the 2004-05 season, where he won another championship ring with the Wave. Most recently, he played with the MISL’s Chicago Storm.
Not only is Alebic a top player in the American indoor game, he has been a success while playing futsal. He was a member of the Croatian national team that played in the 2000 FIFA World Championships in Guatemala, he was a member of title winning teams in Croatia in 1995 and 2000.
Alebic lives with his wife Marijana and three children in the Chicago area.
“We will learn a lot from Sinisa this upcoming season,” said Rebels coach Salvador Morote. “I hope all the young players will be able to see him as a mentor, and they also could be taught by his experience.”
The Rebels will open their inaugural AISL campaign on Saturday November 10th at 7:30 when they face the Rockford Rampage at the Lake County Sports Center (351 Oakwood Ave in Waukegan.
