Rampage Sign Indoor Vet Novi Marojevic
| | | | | In order to add more veteran leadership to their already strong lineup, the American Indoor Soccer League’s Rockford Rampage announced today the signing of eight-year indoor veteran midfielder Novi Marojevic (pronounced No-Vee Maro-Jay-Vich).
A native of Niksic, Montenegro, the 34-year-old Marojevic started his US indoor career with the Kansas City Comets of the MISL in 1996. He played for five seasons with the Comets, scoring 98 goals and 61 assists in 163 games with the club. He would take several years off from the indoor game, returning in 2004 to play with the MISL’s Chicago Storm, where he would score 45 goals over two seasons with the Storm. Last season, he helped the Detroit Ignition come to within one game of the MISL championship. He was named as an MISL All-Star in 2006.
He also played for several years in Europe with Radnicki, Stjeska, Vozdovac, Celi, and Partizan Belgrade.
“Novi was a member of the Chicago Storm when Jeff (Rampage head coach Jeff Kraft) and I were coaching there,” said Rampage president Oscar Albuquerque. “He’s an experienced, successful player that will teach some of our younger players the finer points of the game. He’s going to be a great addition.”
The Rampage will open the 2007-08 season on November 3rd, when they face the Cincinnati Excite at the Game Time Training Center in Cincinnati. They will open the home portion of the campaign on Saturday night, November 17th at 7:30PM when they host the defending AISL champion Massachusetts Twisters.
