Matt Brienes’ Five Goal Performance Leads Excite Past Twisters

  
 
In a match up of the last two American Indoor Soccer League champions, a record-tying five-goal performance by forward Matt Brienes helped lead the Cincinnati Excite over the Massachusetts Twisters 9-5 at the Game Time Training Center last night.

Brienes’ performance (four one-point goals and one two-point goal) was the fourth time in his AISL career that he scored five times in one game.

Jack Cummings scored two goals and Shawn Rockey added one of his own in the Excite’s (1-1) winning effort.

Nick Burke led the Twisters (0-1) with two one-point goals and Brenden Duggen bagged a two-pointer.

Jim Adams took the win in goal for the Excite, making 11 saves and allowing five points. Adam Perron took the loss for the Twisters, allowing seven points and making 16 saves.

The Excite will return to the field next Saturday night at the Game Time Training Center when they host the expansion Northern Illinois Rebels at 7:30PM EST. The Twisters will travel to Rockford, where they will face the Rampage in a rematch of last season’s AISL Championship Game next Saturday at 7:30PM CST.
